Renowned figures, including the Ivorian author and academic Tanella Boni and Nkosana Moyo, founder of the Mandela Institute for Development Studies in Zimbabwe, were formally inducted as new participating members of the Moroccan Academy.
This marks a significant addition to the Academy’s distinguished assembly as part of its new formation.
Attending the ceremony, presided over by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Moroccan Academy, Mohammed Al Katani, the new members expressed their pride in joining this esteemed institution known for fostering dialogue and intellectual exchange, emphasizing Morocco’s pivotal role in promoting shared values and social cohesion.
Speaking to the Moroccan News Agency, Boni remarked, “I am delighted to be among the participating members of this prestigious institution where prominent figures convene to reflect on Morocco, Africa, and the world, along with their values.”
The Ivorian philosopher and writer highlighted the Moroccan Academy as an ideal platform for exchanging ideas and contemplating the history, present, and future of the African continent.
She emphasized the significance of the Academy in facilitating discourse and critical thinking on Africa’s history and prospects.
On his part, Nkosana Moyo expressed his honor in joining the Moroccan Academy, considering it a space for knowledge and experience exchange among researchers and intellectuals.
He pledged to contribute to the institution’s mission by exploring the world to gain insights and offer solutions to the current economic, social, and cultural challenges facing Africa.
The induction ceremony, attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Moroccan Academy, Abdeljalil El Hajjamri, featured inaugural lectures delivered by the new members.
Boni focused on “Connections and Boundaries: The Philosophy of Coexistence,” while Moyo addressed “Lessons Learned from Africa’s Current Geopolitical Developments.”
The appointment of the new members aligns with the provisions of the Royal Decree No. 1.21.02 issued on February 5, 2021, implementing Law No. 74.19 concerning the restructuring of the Moroccan Academy.
