Lilian Brassier is back at his formative club Rennes after a loan deal was confirmed with Brest.
The 25-year-old centre-back joins the Ligue 1 outfit on loan with an option for Rennes to make the move permanent for €12 million through to 2029.
Brassier’s first-half stint at Marseille didn’t go as planned, with his performances failing to match the high standards he set last season at Brest. Despite a €12m purchase option in his loan agreement, Marseille opted not to activate it, opening the door for Rennes to swoop in.
With defensive struggles evident, particularly from new arrivals Leo Ostigard and Hans Hateboer, Rennes were in urgent need of reinforcement at the back. Brassier’s wealth of Ligue 1 experience is expected to provide immediate impact. Having completed his medical, the French defender could feature in Rennes’ upcoming clash against RC Strasbourg this Sunday.
Brassier becomes the fourth signing for Rennes this winter, joining Seko Fofana, Brice Samba, and Kyogo Furuhashi as the club bolsters its squad for the remainder of the season.
