Ligue 1: Montanier Urges Paul-George Ntep to Control Temper After Decisive Display
Despite being Rennes’ standout performer this season, Paul-George Ntep once again showed signs of losing his composure during Saturday’s clash against Guingamp. The Franco-Cameroonian forward came close to cracking under pressure but ultimately redeemed himself by scoring the winning goal for his side.
Rennes head coach Philippe Montanier praised Ntep’s influence on the game but didn’t hold back in pointing out a key area the young star must improve—his temperament.
“He’s decisive and consistent. Offensively and defensively, he’s becoming more and more reliable,” Montanier said after the match. “He doesn’t succeed in everything, but he’s always dangerous and finishes well. That’s crucial for winning matches.”
However, Montanier also noted that Ntep is becoming a marked man due to his growing influence—and opponents are trying to take advantage.
“He’s going to have to learn to deal with provocation. He’s a decisive player, and others see that. If we can make him lose his cool, we gain the upper hand,” the coach added. “He needs to learn to control himself and accept being a target.”
Currently sitting sixth in Ligue 1, Rennes are showing promise this season. As they prepare to face Monaco on Matchday 14, all eyes will be on whether Ntep can continue to shine—while keeping his emotions in check.
