Newcastle United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Arnaud Kalimuendo, after Rennes president Arnaud Pouille confirmed that the forward has been authorised to hold talks with other clubs.
Kalimuendo, who is of Congolese descent, has emerged as a key transfer target for several top European sides following an impressive season in Ligue 1.
The 23-year-old scored 18 goals and added three assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his clinical edge and consistency.
With a return to the UEFA Champions League on the horizon, Newcastle are eager to strengthen their attacking options and see Kalimuendo as a viable addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.
However, they are not alone in the race. German champions Bayer Leverkusen are also reportedly tracking the Frenchman closely.
Speaking to L’Équipe, Rennes president Arnaud Pouille stated, “He is one of the players who had a lot of contacts in January. We have authorised him to speak with other clubs.”
Kalimuendo joined Rennes from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 and has quickly established himself as a central figure in their attack.
His ability to play across the forward line and contribute decisively in the final third makes him an attractive prospect for teams competing in Europe next season.
Although Newcastle remain firmly interested, they will need to act decisively to ward off competition and secure the striker’s signature.
