Remo Stars tightened their grip on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title race with a commanding 2-0 victory over Kwara United, reinforcing their position at the top of the table.
The win sees the Sky Blue Stars move to 51 points from 25 matches, further cementing their status as league leaders.
With the match heading towards a tense finale, Samuel Anakwe broke the deadlock in the 79th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Kwara United’s goalkeeper failed to hold onto a free-kick from Nduka Junior.
Anakwe reacted swiftly, directing his header into the net to give Remo Stars a crucial advantage.
As the game entered stoppage time, substitute Hadi Haruna put the result beyond doubt.
The forward latched onto a low drive from Ibrahim Shuaibu, steering the ball past the keeper to secure all three points for the league leaders.
Elsewhere in the NPFL, Katsina United claimed a 2-1 win over Enyimba at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
Bello Lukman opened the scoring just before half-time and doubled the hosts’ lead in the 51st minute.
Ekene Awazie managed to pull one back for Enyimba in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late to salvage a result.
