Relebohile Mofokeng scores again as Union Saint-Gilloise move top in Belgium

Relebohile Mofokeng continued his remarkable start in Belgium by scoring his third Belgian Pro League goal in five matches as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise defeated Lommel SK 5-0 on Saturday.

The Bafana Bafana playmaker, making only his second start in the competition, doubled Union Saint-Gilloise’s advantage in the seventh minute. The 21-year-old former Orlando Pirates player had already scored against Westerlo and Sint-Truidense.

His latest goal helped les unionistes move to the top of the table and extended Mofokeng’s fairytale beginning to life in Belgium.

African players produced a series of decisive performances across Europe over the weekend, with Mohamed Belloumi, Malick Yalcouye, Inaki Williams, Akor Adams, Christian Kofane, Serhou Guirassy and Abdallah Sima also finding the net or making a significant contribution.

Belloumi strikes twice for Hull

Algerian winger Mohamed Belloumi scored twice as promoted Hull City drew 2-2 away to Chelsea, extending their unbeaten Premier League run this season to four matches.

Belloumi’s first two league goals continued Hull’s impressive return to the top flight after a 10-year absence. He scored twice in six first-half minutes, producing two precise left-footed finishes, although his second effort took several deflections off Chelsea defenders.

The brace secured a point for the third-placed Tigers at Stamford Bridge.

Yalcouye and Williams on target

Mali-born midfielder Malick Yalcouye scored Brighton’s second goal in their 5-0 victory over 10-man Coventry.

The 20-year-old accelerated clear of the Coventry defence before finishing in the 51st minute. It was his second goal of the season, following his strike in Brighton’s defeat by Chelsea. Yalcouye has also represented the Ivory Coast under-23 team after being raised in the country.

Ghana international Inaki Williams rescued a 1-1 La Liga draw for Athletic Bilbao against Elche with a close-range finish a little over 10 minutes from full-time.

The 32-year-old striker made the slightest contact to guide the ball home as two defenders attempted to stop him. It was his first goal of the campaign.

Guirassy contributes despite disallowed goals

Nigeria striker Akor Adams put bottom side Venezia ahead against Fiorentina with a shot from just inside the penalty area, but a Franco Mastantuono hat-trick gave the visitors a 4-2 Serie A victory.

Christian Kofane opened the scoring for Bayer Leverkusen in the 18th minute at Augsburg. The Cameroon striker controlled a long pass from Burkina Faso defender Edmond Tapsoba and calmly placed a low shot into the bottom-right corner, but Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw.

Serhou Guirassy had two goals ruled out for offside in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 home win over Paderborn. He still played a key role, linking with Fabio Silva near halfway before his Portuguese strike partner opened the scoring after five minutes.

In Ligue 1, Senegal international Abdallah Sima began Lens’ comeback in a 2-2 draw at Le Mans, heading past goalkeeper Ewan Hatfout in added time at the end of the first half. It was his first league goal of the season.
