Marseille Crush Reims 5-0 at Stade Auguste Delaune
It was a nightmare evening for Stade de Reims, who were completely overpowered by Olympique de Marseille in the opening match of Ligue 1’s 7th round, suffering a 0-5 defeat at home.
Goalkeeper Johny Placide started the match but conceded two goals before being replaced by Togo international Kossi Agassa, who unfortunately fared no better — conceding three more as Reims collapsed under Marseille’s relentless pressure.
Defender Chris Mavinga admitted the defeat was no fluke:
“Today, Marseille were stronger than us in every area; their victory was well-deserved. The coach tried to put together a defensive team, but it surprised everyone because we only found out a few hours before the match. We hadn’t prepared to play like that, and it created a disorganization that put us in difficulty.”
With this heavy loss, Reims drops to 17th in the league, hovering just above the relegation zone, while Marseille confirm their dominance with a fifth consecutive win.
Reims now face a crucial clash on matchday 8, traveling to FC Metz in search of redemption and points to avoid sinking further down the table.
