Regragui asserts Morocco’s stance on player commitment

Regragui asserts Morocco’s stance on player commitment

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has named his squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, reinforcing his stance that commitment to the national team is non-negotiable.

With crucial matches against Niger and Tanzania ahead, Regragui has assembled a blend of seasoned internationals and fresh talents.

However, one notable omission is RC Lens midfielder Neil El Aynaoui, who opted to prioritize his club commitments over an international call-up.

Speaking at a press conference, Regragui addressed the situation, recalling that El Aynaoui had been given an opportunity a year ago but had chosen to focus on securing his place at Lens.

“I called up Neil El Aynaoui in March last year. He wanted to establish himself at his club, and I respected that.

The door remained open, and it still is. But at some point, the initiative has to come from the player, not just the national team,” Regragui stated.

Reaffirming his philosophy, the coach emphasized that no individual is above the national team.

“As I always say, Morocco is bigger than any player. We need individuals who are fully committed and ready to give 100%.

The door remains open, but the desire must come from him,” he added.

Regragui’s firm stance highlights Morocco’s growing expectations, ensuring that only the most dedicated players represent the Atlas Lions on their path to World Cup qualification.
