Reda Heikal returns to Zamalek men’s volleyball team

Zamalek have confirmed that Reda Heikal will return to lead their men’s volleyball team for the upcoming season.

The Egyptian club announced Heikal’s return as part of a series of moves designed to strengthen the squad after a season in which they failed to win any men’s volleyball trophy.

Zamalek had already completed several deals, with the return of Mohamed Mostafa “Labeh” among the most notable. The club’s recruitment activity is intended to provide greater depth and quality before the new campaign begins.

Announcing Heikal’s comeback on their official social media account, Zamalek wrote: “The plane has landed at home, here are the Apache, here is Reda Heikal.”

The message referred to the player’s return to the club, using the “Apache” nickname associated with Zamalek and presenting the move in characteristically enthusiastic terms.

FilGoal.com had previously reported that Zamalek had reached an agreement for both Mohamed Mostafa “Labeh” and Reda Heikal to return for the upcoming season. The club has now formally confirmed Heikal’s return to take charge of the men’s volleyball side once again.

Heikal left Zamalek to continue his professional career abroad, spending periods in Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates before agreeing to come back to the Egyptian club.

His return comes as Zamalek seek to improve on a campaign in which they ended the season without a men’s volleyball title. Al Ahly won all of the men’s volleyball trophies last season, leaving Zamalek without silverware.

The club’s efforts to rebuild the team have included bringing back familiar figures, with the return of Mohamed Mostafa “Labeh” also forming part of the preparations for the new season. Zamalek’s announcement of Heikal completes one of the key moves previously reported by FilGoal.com.

The registration window closed on 2 August, meaning the club’s squad planning has taken place against the backdrop of a completed registration process. Zamalek will now begin the upcoming season with Heikal back in charge and with a number of additions intended to reinforce the men’s team.

For Heikal, the move represents a return to Zamalek after his time playing professionally in Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. For the club, it is a clear attempt to restore competitiveness after Al Ahly claimed every men’s volleyball title last season.
