Habib Beye’s Red Star clinched the National 1 championship without even stepping onto the field. The Audonians secured the title as their closest rivals, Niort, stumbled to a defeat against Martigues, solidifying Red Star’s position at the top of the table.
Despite their upcoming fixture against Nimes Olympique on the 31st matchday of National 1, Red Star’s ascension to the championship was confirmed following Niort’s 3-1 loss at home to Martigues.
With a commanding lead of 62 points, compared to Niort’s 53, Red Star has mathematically secured the title, even before their final match.
Announcing the momentous achievement, the club’s official statement read, “The @RedStarFC is crowned French Champion of @NationalFFF! One week after securing its rise to @Ligue2BKT, the Red are now officially Champion of France!”
This historic triumph for Red Star owes much to the contributions of several African players who played pivotal roles throughout the season.
Pépé Bonnet from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Blondon Meyapya from Cameroon, Fodé Doucouré from Mali, Cheick Ndoye from Senegal, Fred Dembi from Congo, Alioune Fall from Senegal, Achille Anani from Ivory Coast, and Hacène Benali from Algeria, were instrumental in the team’s success.
Their collective effort and stellar performances on the field not only propelled Red Star to the summit of National 1 but also exemplified the diversity and talent within the squad.
As the club prepares to embark on its journey in Ligue 2 next season, the triumph serves as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unity of the entire Red Star team, with the African contingent playing an integral part in their historic achievement.
