Red Star Belgrade secured their first Champions League group stage victory since 2019, delivering a commanding 4-1 triumph over Stuttgart on Wednesday. The Serbian champions, winless in their first three group matches this season, bounced back in spectacular fashion at home.
The match began poorly for Red Star as Stuttgart’s Demirović opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
However, the Serbian side responded swiftly through an equalizer from Silas, a Stuttgart loanee, in the 12th minute.
Red Star took full control in the second half.
Ivanic scored in the 65th minute, giving the hosts the lead, followed by two goals from Radonjić in the 69th and 88th minutes to seal the dominant win.
Despite his efforts, Senegalese striker Chérif Ndiaye, starting for Red Star, was unable to find the back of the net.
The victory ends a five-year drought for Red Star in Europe’s elite competition and moves them to 31st out of 36 teams in the Champions League rankings.
The emphatic performance against Stuttgart breathes new life into their campaign as they look to build momentum for the remainder of the tournament.
