Ivorian winger Teddy Okou will not be joining Egyptian giants Zamalek SC as reported widely in the last few days.
According to a source cited by Kooora, the collapse of the transfer was not due to any concerns from Zamalek’s end as initially rumoured but rather stemmed from financial demands made by the player’s agent.
“Zamalek did not reject the signing of Teddy Okou, as claimed by some club officials. In truth, it was the player and his agent who decided to walk away from the deal,” the source revealed.
The insider further explained that Okou’s agent requested additional undisclosed sums of money, citing interest in the player from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Zamalek reportedly declined the revised demands, leading to the breakdown in negotiations.
Contrary to reports suggesting Okou failed a medical examination, Kooora’s source firmly denied those claims.
“Teddy Okou never signed any contracts with Zamalek,” the source confirmed, adding that the player is expected to announce his next destination within hours.
Zamalek had already reached an agreement with Swiss club FC Luzern for the winger’s transfer, and initial personal terms had also been settled. However, the deal ultimately fell through due to the late-stage financial disagreements.
It is understood that Teddy Okou is in talks with a Saudi club and could seal a big-money move before the close of this week.
