Real Madrid are reportedly targeting a second Liverpool defender as they eye a free transfer for Ibrahima Konate next season.
This move comes after reports that the Spanish giants have already lined up Trent Alexander-Arnold for a similar switch.
Konate, 25, who has Malian heritage, joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has since become a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s defense.
With his contract set to expire next summer, the French international could leave Anfield for free if a new deal is not agreed.
According to Spanish journalist José Félix Díaz, Real Madrid are monitoring Konate’s situation closely, hoping to replicate the approach they reportedly took with Alexander-Arnold, whose current contract also expires at the end of the season.
Liverpool, aware of the risk of losing another top defender without a fee, have reportedly initiated contract talks with Konate in a bid to secure his long-term future.
The club is said to be keen on avoiding a repeat of the Alexander-Arnold situation, where one of their brightest talents departs without a transfer fee.
Konate, known for his physicality and aerial strength, has been a regular starter for Liverpool this season, forming a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds’ defense.
His departure would be a significant blow for Liverpool, who have struggled to maintain defensive consistency in recent seasons.
