Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe under investigation over €180,300 SUSPICIOUS payment to French Police Officers

French prosecutors have opened a formal investigation into Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé over suspicious payments allegedly made to police officers assigned to the national team.

The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it is probing payments made by the French international, raising concerns about their legality.

According to reports from AFP, France’s police oversight body, IGPN, launched the inquiry after it was revealed that five CRS officers—tasked with protecting the French national team—received cheques from Mbappé amounting to €180,300.

France’s financial intelligence agency, Tracfin, had earlier flagged questionable transactions involving the officers and three private security personnel.

Initial indications suggest the payments may have been for private, undeclared security services for Mbappé, rather than for their official duties.

Authorities are now working to determine whether the funds were legitimate contributions tied to national security or undisclosed payments for personal protection services outside legal protocols.

In a statement, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office said, “A judicial investigation into the charges of undeclared work and money laundering through tax fraud has been entrusted to the National Investigation Division of the IGPN,” the Paris Public Prosecutor’s office stated.

“The investigations, which are inherently complex given the financial transactions involved, are underway in order to characterise the commission of possible criminal offences and, where appropriate, identify the perpetrators.”

Mbappé has reportedly denied any misconduct, maintaining that all procedures were followed properly and “without any personal benefit involved.”
