Real Madrid are not prepared to risk Kylian Mbappe’s fitness and are expected to give the France forward additional time to recover from a knee injury.
Mbappe left France’s Nations League group-stage match against Turkey in the 59th minute after scoring the only goal of the game. Real Madrid later said he would be sidelined for two weeks after suffering a muscle strain.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the club are taking a cautious approach and do not want to rush Mbappe back into action.
The report says Real Madrid plan to rest the forward for their La Liga fixture against Villarreal in the eighth round and their Champions League match against Roma in the second round.
Mbappe is instead expected to return against Sevilla in the ninth round of La Liga. That match comes before Real Madrid face Barcelona in the 10th round.
The France international has made eight appearances for Real Madrid this season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
Real Madrid are fourth in the La Liga table with 15 points. Their next match is against Villarreal on Saturday, 10 September, in the eighth round of the competition.
