Real Madrid received bad news on the eve of their crucial Champions League quarter-final match against Borussia Dortmund. The Spanish club announced on Tuesday that Marcelo, their left-back, has suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh and is likely to miss the game against the German side.
“After examinations, the player Marcelo was diagnosed with a first-degree tear in the left hamstring muscles,” Real Madrid stated in a press release, adding that the duration of his absence would depend on the progress of his recovery.
According to reports from the sports daily Marca, Marcelo is expected to be sidelined for approximately two weeks, potentially causing him to miss the second leg as well. In his absence, Fabio Coentrao is likely to fill in his position.
