Real Madrid maintain interest in French-Cameroonian defender William Saliba

Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the French defender of Cameroonian descent, William Saliba.

The club has maintained their interest in the centre-back from the summer and considers him a priority target.

Arsenal, however, are stepping up efforts to secure Saliba’s long-term future. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have improved their contract extension proposal in a bid to prevent the 24-year-old from reaching the summer of 2026 with only one year left on his deal.

Mikel Arteta considers William Saliba untouchable, with the Frenchman a cornerstone of his defensive setup.

Despite this, Real Madrid remain attentive to developments. They are monitoring closely, aware that any stall in contract negotiations could open a window of opportunity.

Since joining Arsenal from Saint-Étienne, Saliba has grown into one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders, praised for his composure, leadership, and consistency at the back.

With the 2025/26 European football season shaping up, Saliba is focused on his Arsenal career and wants to give his best to the team to ensure they win trophies at the end of the campaign.
