Real Madrid hold firm in Vinicius contract talks

Real Madrid are standing their ground in contract negotiations with Vinicius Junior and are unwilling to meet his request for a 30 million euro annual package, according to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic.

That figure includes base salary, bonuses and a renewal bonus, and would represent a major jump from his current terms.

Vinicius currently earns around 17 million euros net per year, a salary level that places him alongside Kylian Mbappe and runs until 2027, leaving one year remaining after this season. Madrid’s latest proposal is understood to be worth 20 million euros net, in line with their established wage structure and without any precedent-setting renewal bonuses. The club have historically been very strict with their pay scale and are determined not to break it in this case.

Talks have been effectively stalled since last summer, despite both club and player publicly expressing a desire to continue together. The relationship between Vinicius and president Florentino Perez is strong, which gives the club confidence that an agreement can eventually be found.

For now, however, a significant economic gap remains, and Madrid are not in a hurry to compromise, even as the Brazilian weighs up his options with around 14 months left on his current deal.
