Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa has credited his attacker Brahim Diaz for Morocco’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final feat.
The 26-year-old winger has been heavily criticized for missing a crucial penalty in the final match against Senegal, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Senegal pounced on Diaz penalty miss, defeating the Atlas Lions 1-0 after extra-time to secure the title.
The Taranga Lions walked-off the pitch after referee Jacques Ndala awarded a penalty kick to Morocco, minutes after disallowing a goal for the Taranga Lions.
But Sadio Mane urged his teammates to return to the pitch for the continuation of the match. Their return paid off, with Pape Gueye netting the match winner.
Amid criticism, Arbeloa has staunchly supported the Moroccan international, stressing the Atlas Lions reached the final largely because of Diaz contribution.
Meanwhile, the club is eagerly awaiting Diaz’s return and is ready to offer him every possible support.
“Brahim Díaz showed exceptional performances at the Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco reached the final in large part because of him”
“Of course, we are all looking forward to his return and are ready to welcome him with open arms… Thanks to our style of play, he can adapt to a variety of positions”
“His teammates are also eagerly awaiting him, and this mutual appreciation gives me great confidence in the future.” – said Arbeloa.
This season, Brahim Díaz has played 18 matches for Real, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists. Díaz’s current contract with the “Galácticos” runs until 2027.
