Karim Benzema’s participation in the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid is hanging in the balance. The French striker, who has scored five goals in the tournament this season, is among the players whose availability remains uncertain for the crucial match. Alongside Benzema, defender Pepe’s fitness is also in question.
Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid coach, addressed the media in a UEFA press conference, stating, “Benzema and Pepe are the only two players we have doubts about. Right now, they can’t play. We will make the decision in the last hours. If Pepe cannot play, Varane can play in his place. Karim is not one hundred percent. If there is a risk of the injury getting worse, he won’t play. I think it won’t be a problem.”
In addition to these concerns, Real Madrid will also be without midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is suspended for the final.
