Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to extend his contract by one season.
Courtois’ current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but The Athletic reports that the 34-year-old has agreed to remain with the Spanish club until the summer of 2028.
The goalkeeper is currently in his ninth season at Real Madrid, having joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2018.
Courtois has won 12 trophies during his time at the club, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.
He has established himself as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper and is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Courtois has kept 98 clean sheets in La Liga for the club.
At international level, Courtois has made 115 appearances for Belgium. However, he has indicated that he will temporarily step away from the national team during their Nations League campaign under manager Mark van Bommel.
Senne Lammens, the Manchester United goalkeeper, was selected in his place.
