RC Lens’s pursuit of Arsène Kouassi appears to be losing momentum, with the club reportedly shifting its focus to an alternative candidate for the left-back position.
Earlier, Lens had expressed strong interest in Kouassi, the AC Ajaccio defender, reportedly submitting an initial offer exceeding €800,000 in a bid to secure his services.
The Burkinabè international’s profile had caught the attention of Lens’ management, suggesting a promising move was imminent.
However, recent internal changes within the club have cast doubt over the progress of the deal.
Under the guidance of new sporting director Jean-Louis Leca, RC Lens is said to be exploring other options to bolster their left flank.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, the club has turned its attention to Moroccan defender Zakaria Ariss, currently with SC Bastia, and has begun gathering information on the player.
This strategic shift indicates that Lens may now deprioritise Kouassi in favour of pursuing Ariss, potentially halting negotiations with Ajaccio.
Despite this, Kouassi remains an attractive prospect for several clubs beyond Lens, with English side Brentford and other Ligue 1 teams reportedly monitoring his situation closely.
Currently contracted with AC Ajaccio until June 2027, Kouassi has been a regular feature in the Ligue 2 side’s campaign, making 23 appearances this season and contributing three assists.
His market value has also seen a notable increase, rising from an estimated €800,000 to €1.5 million according to Transfermarkt.
The 23-year-old’s consistent performances and international experience with Burkina Faso continue to make him a sought-after player in the transfer market.
While Lens reassesses its priorities following the appointment of Jean-Louis Leca as sporting director, Kouassi’s future remains in flux amid growing interest from other clubs.
As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Lens will rekindle their pursuit or fully commit to their new target in Ariss.
Meanwhile, Kouassi’s next move is eagerly awaited by both his current club and potential suitors, with his development and form making him a valuable asset on the market.
