Raja Casablanca reach agreement in principle to sign Nigerian midfielder Moases Orkum

ORKUMA

Raja Club Athletic have reached an agreement in principle to sign Nigerian midfielder Moses Orkuma on a two-year deal, subject to the player’s arrival in Casablanca within the next few hours.

The 29-year-old is set to join the Moroccan giants as a free agent once his current contract with Tunisian side Union Sportive Monastirienne expires at the end of June.

His recruitment comes following a strong recommendation from Raja head coach Lassaad Chabbi, who previously worked with Orkuma during his coaching tenure in Tunisia and is believed to be a firm admirer of the player’s qualities.

Orkuma, a naturally left-footed defensive midfielder, is known for his physical presence, tactical intelligence, and ability to read the game. His arrival is expected to bolster Raja’s midfield options ahead of the upcoming season as the club looks to build a more balanced and resilient squad.

The Nigerian brings with him a wealth of experience from across various leagues in North Africa and the Middle East. In the 2023/24 campaign, he featured prominently for US Monastir, making 29 appearances in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.

His consistency and adaptability throughout the season have reportedly caught the attention of several clubs, but Raja have now positioned themselves as frontrunners to secure his services.

Throughout his professional career, Orkuma has played for a range of clubs across the Arab world, including Al-Ahly Tripoli in Libya, Étoile du Sahel, AS Gabès, and US Monastir in Tunisia. He also had spells in the Gulf region, turning out for Umm Salal in Qatar and Al-Tadamon in Kuwait. His diverse experience across different competitive environments is seen as a major asset by Raja’s technical staff.

Coach Lassaad Chabbi is understood to have played a pivotal role in orchestrating the move. The Tunisian manager, who recently oversaw the acquisition of central defender Badr Banoun, is eager to further reinforce his squad, particularly in the midfield area, where depth and defensive solidity remain key priorities.

Sources within the club suggest that Orkuma’s arrival is just the beginning of a broader recruitment strategy ahead of the new season. Raja, one of Morocco’s most successful and historic clubs, are keen to mount a strong domestic and continental campaign and view strategic signings like Orkuma as essential to achieving that goal.

The official announcement of Orkuma’s signing is expected once the player completes his medical examination and finalizes personal terms upon arrival in Morocco. Until then, the deal remains provisional, though both parties are reportedly optimistic about the completion of formalities.

If finalized, Orkuma will become the latest in a string of foreign players to join the Casablanca-based side, reflecting the club’s ongoing ambition to blend local talent with experienced international professionals in pursuit of silverware.

Raja fans will be watching closely as the transfer window unfolds, hopeful that the addition of seasoned figures like Orkuma will provide the strength and leadership needed to reclaim both domestic and continental glory.
