Rachid Oukali has been named the new president of SSPA CRB Athletic, succeeding Mehdi Rabhi following a board meeting held on Monday.
The 42-year-old, who began his football journey as a referee, brings a wealth of experience in football governance to the role. Oukali’s administrative career spans over a decade, having presided over the Algiers Wilaya Football League from 2014 until 2024.
His influence within Algerian football expanded significantly in 2021 when he joined the federal office of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) under the leadership of Charaffedine Amara.
During his tenure at the FAF, Oukali served in several key positions. He was appointed chairman of the finance committee and later took charge as president of the organising committee for the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Algeria hosted.
Academically, Oukali holds a master’s degree in sports management and administration, further cementing his credentials in both theoretical and practical aspects of football leadership. In 2024, his trajectory led him to the board of CRB, once again on the recommendation of Amara.
In a statement confirming the appointment, the board expressed confidence in Oukali’s ability to guide the club through its next chapter. “This appointment comes in a spirit of responsibility and continuity for this historic Algerian football club,” the statement read.
The club also paid tribute to outgoing president Mehdi Rabhi, acknowledging his efforts and commitment during his time in office. “The Board would like to warmly thank Mr. Mehdi Rabhi for his sincere commitment and the considerable efforts he has devoted to serving the club. It wishes him every happiness and success in his future missions,” the statement added.
Looking ahead, Oukali faces the challenge of building on the foundations laid by his predecessor, with the board setting out ambitious targets for domestic and continental success.
“The objectives are clear: to win titles, both on the national and continental scene, and to keep the club at the highest level,” the statement concluded.
Oukali’s appointment signals a continued focus on experienced football leadership at CRB. As the club prepares for the upcoming season, his knowledge of the game—shaped by roles at local, national, and international levels—is expected to be a key asset in achieving the club’s competitive ambitions.
