Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that teenage winger Quentin Ndjantou will undergo surgery, ruling him out for several months on the eve of their Ligue 1 clash with Marseille.
The 18-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a right thigh injury during PSG’s French Cup round of 32 match against Vendée Fontenay Foot, and the club has now revealed that surgical intervention is required.
The announcement comes as PSG prepare to host their fierce rivals at the Parc des Princes in the third Classique of the season.
In a medical update released on Friday, the Parisian club said examinations had been carried out to assess the progression of the injury before a final decision was taken.
“Following examinations to monitor the progress of Quentin Ndjantou’s injury, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff has decided to proceed with surgery on his right hamstring. His unavailability is estimated at several months,” the club stated.
The news represents a significant setback for the young winger, who has been working his way into the first-team picture this season.
Ndjantou’s absence adds to PSG’s concerns ahead of a match that could have implications at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
Head coach Luis Enrique will also be without midfielder Fabian Ruiz for the encounter. The Spain international continues his recovery process and remains unavailable for selection, with the club confirming that he is “continuing his treatment”.
PSG face Marseille knowing that the fixture carries weight beyond the immediate points on offer, with both sides having already met twice this season.
However, the focus for the Parisian club has been partly diverted by injuries, particularly the long-term nature of Ndjantou’s setback.
The club’s medical report offered no precise timetable for the winger’s return, stating only that his recovery is expected to last several months.
assessment suggests Ndjantou will miss a substantial portion of the remaining campaign as he undergoes surgery and rehabilitation.
Despite the blow, PSG will look to draw on their squad depth as they prepare for one of French football’s most high-profile fixtures.
For Ndjantou, attention now turns to a lengthy recovery process as he works towards returning to full fitness.
