According to The Guardian, Nicolas Anelka has decided not to appeal against the punishment imposed on him for his quenelle gesture. He received a five-match suspension and was fined €100,000 after being found guilty by a commission set up to investigate the incident. Anelka had a week to contest the commission’s findings, but his lawyer has confirmed that he will not do so.
The report released by the English Football Association following their investigation concluded that Anelka had committed a “serious breach” by making a gesture that was offensive or indecent and could reference ethnic origin, skin color, race, nationality, religion, faith, gender, sexual orientation, or illness. However, he was not found to have acted in an anti-Semitic manner or to have promoted anti-Semitism.
