Queiroz yet to sign ‘full Ghana contract’ despite already working – Minister
Ghana’s Sports Minister Kofi Adams has revealed that the appointment of new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is yet to be fully formalised, with key contractual details still pending despite the Portuguese already starting work ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz has already begun a European tour, meeting captains Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey after he was unveiled last Thursday.
He also monitored Black Galaxies players on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium during friendlies.
Speaking to Accra-based Asempa FM, Adams indicated that while an agreement in principle has been reached, the full contract has not been completed or signed off.
“We are not paying him $100,000. We are not paying him up to that amount at all.”
“I will check the figures [of his salary] because we have not finalised and signed the full contract and everything, so I cannot give the exact figure, but it’s not up $100,000,” he said.
The minister explained that the timing of the appointment, less than two months before the tournament, required swift action to secure an experienced coach capable of delivering immediate impact.
He stressed that Ghana needed a manager who is World Cup-ready and able to quickly impose structure on the team.
“The condition we agreed was that we were going for a short-term contract, maximum four months, for the period of the World Cup, but the performance would determine any further agreement,” he stated.
Queiroz, 73, replaces Otto Addo and is expected to lead Ghana through a demanding Group L campaign against England, Croatia, and Panama.
