Queens Park Rangers Football Club has clarified that the case involving Moroccan player Elias Chair has not yet been resolved.
In a statement on their official website, the English team informed that they are in constant communication with the player’s defense team, emphasizing that they will not comment further on the matter.
Chair is currently participating as a starter in the match between Queens Park Rangers and Rotherham, as part of the 34th round of the English Championship.
Reports had previously suggested that a Belgian court had sentenced Elias Chair, the midfielder for Queens Park Rangers, to a two-year imprisonment term.
According to Belgian outlet “7sur7”, the court issued its verdict on Friday, sentencing Chair to two years in prison, with 12 months suspended, following his involvement in an incident where he assaulted a truck driver with a large rock during a canoeing trip with his brother and friends.
The source further explained that Chair caused the victim to suffer a skull fracture four years ago after hitting him in the head with a rock during a dispute.
The Belgian court ruled for Chair to serve two years in prison, with one year suspended, along with a fine of £13,400.
