Qatar considers hosting Egypt and Saudi Arabia friendlies in test tournament
The Qatar Football Association is weighing up whether to stage a trial national teams tournament that would include Saudi Arabia, a decision expected within the next 48 hours.
According to Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah, there is already an agreed framework in place and coordination is ongoing, with optimism growing since the Qatari league recently resumed.
Saudi Arabia had been scheduled to play two friendlies against Egypt and Serbia on 26 and 30 March in Doha as part of this proposed event in the Qatari capital. However, if organising the tournament in Doha proves difficult, the two warm-up matches will instead be moved to Jeddah after talks with the Egyptian and Serbian federations. The Green Falcons are expected to enter camp with a large preliminary squad of around 50 players.
French coach Hervé Renard will announce his final list for the March window after the conclusion of matchday 26 of the Saudi Pro League.
The friendlies are seen as key preparation steps on the road to upcoming major competitions, while both federations remain flexible about venue and logistics to ensure the games go ahead.
