Pyramids FC have set up a tie against Moroccan side RS Berkane in the CAF Super Cup following their historic Champions League title triumph.
The Egyptian outfit prevailed over Mamelodi Sundown in the two-legged final to secure their maiden Champions League title.
In a high-stake second leg clash held at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium, Pyramids inflicted a 2-1 victory over Sundowns, completing a 3-2 aggregate win for the Egyptian club.
Pyramids opened the scoring through DR Congo star Fiston Mayele in the 24th-minute as the host went to the halftime break with the advantage.
After the break, the host continued their dominance in the match, scoring their second goal through Ahmed Samy in the 56th-minute mark.
In the 75th-minute, Sundowns pulled one back through Iqraam Rayners but it wasn’t enough to salvage his outfit from defeat.
Before the return clash, both teams had settled for a 1-1 draw at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
Having secured the title, Pyramids will lock horns with RS Berkane, who emerged as champions in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The date and venue of the CAF Super Cup fixture will be announced by CAF in the coming days, but the match is already building up as a clash of champions.
The fixture will be a reunion of sorts, as Pyramids lost to Berkane in the 2020 Confederation Cup final—a result they will be eager to avenge.
This win also ensured that Egypt remains dominant in African club football, winning the CAF Champions League for the third consecutive season. Giants, Al Ahly won the previous two seasons but missed out on a third consecutive success.
The Super Cup presents another opportunity for Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić to add silverware to his growing legacy at the club.
Additionally, Pyramids have sealed a spot in the expanded 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, which will feature 32 of the world’s best club sides.
Their qualification confirms Pyramids’ arrival on the global stage, just a decade after the club’s establishment.
