Pyramids FC blasted the Professional Clubs Association for refusing to reschedule their Egyptian Capital Cup match against Haras El-Hodoud, echoing Al Ahly’s move to prioritize youth players.
With a difficult continental clash against Orlando Pirates looming, the club faces a logistical nightmare. Sporting director Hany Said called the league’s decision shortsighted, arguing it undercuts the tournament’s quality.
“It seems that the league is not keen on the success of its tournament due to the dates it has set, and it does not want Pyramids to play the matches with all its stars, which would increase the competitiveness,” he said.
Said pointed out the tight timeline facing Haras El-Hodoud in Alexandria on Wednesday, then flying 10 hours to South Africa by Saturday.
“The dates were set without taking into account the circumstances of the clubs participating in the continental competition. This harms the tournament and makes participation with the first team impossible,” he added.
Like Al Ahly, Pyramids may field their youth squad to navigate the clash.
“Is it reasonable for us to play in Alexandria and then take a 10-hour flight to reach South Africa? The Clubs Association must be more committed to the success of the tournament it organizes by choosing dates that suit the clubs and allow them to participate with their first-team squad,” he ended.
