Pyramids FC set for RS Berkane reunion in blockbuster CAF Champions League group stage

Reigning CAF club competition champions Pyramids FC and RS Berkane will face off again after being drawn in the same group for the 2025–26 CAF Champions League.

The draw, held in Johannesburg on Monday, produced several heavyweight pairings as Africa’s elite clubs learned their group stage opponents.

Pyramids, who captured their maiden Champions League title last season, headline Group A alongside three-time Confederation Cup winners and current holders RS Berkane.

The two sides met just a fortnight ago in the CAF Super Cup final, where Fiston Mayele’s late goal handed Pyramids a 1–0 victory in Cairo.

Their rivalry now continues in the group stage, which also features Nigeria’s Rivers United and Zambia’s Power Dynamos.

Group B brings together Egyptian giants and record 12-time champions Al Ahly with AS FAR of Morocco, Algeria’s JS Kabylie, and Tanzanian outfit Young Africans.

The group promises intense regional rivalries and high-stakes encounters.

In Group C, 2016 champions and last season’s runners-up Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa will lock horns with Sudan’s Al Hilal, MC Alger of Algeria, and DR Congo’s St. Eloi Lupopo.

All four teams boast strong continental pedigrees, setting the stage for fierce competition.

Group D features four-time champions Esperance de Tunis, who will battle Tanzania’s Simba SC, Angola’s Petro de Luanda, and Stade Malien of Mali.

The group is expected to be tightly contested, given the recent resurgence of Petro and Simba on the continental stage.

The 2025–26 CAF Champions League group phase is set to kick off on the weekend of November 21–23, with teams vying for spots in the knockout rounds.

The competition promises high drama, intense rivalries, and renewed battles among Africa’s football heavyweights as the race for continental glory begins anew.
