Pyramids FC: Rulani Mokwena targets five additional players to strengthen squad
Pyramids FC have reportedly assured head coach Rulani Mokwena that the club will strengthen his squad during the upcoming transfer window as they seek to maintain their impressive start to the season.
The Egyptian side have enjoyed a perfect beginning to their league campaign, winning all eight of their opening matches under the South African tactician. They have also secured qualification for the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
According to Egyptian outlet Ahram Gate, Mokwena is keen to add reinforcements across several positions, with defenders, midfielders and forwards being considered ahead of the transfer window.
Modern Sport striker Mahmoud Mamdouh is reportedly among the club’s top targets. The forward has emerged as the Egyptian Premier League’s leading scorer, having netted eight goals in eight appearances.
Pyramids are also monitoring Al-Ittihad Alexandria defender Mostafa Ibrahim, Wadi Degla defensive midfielder Ahmed Scholes and Ali Hamdi, who currently plays for Bank El Ahly.
Palestinian forward Asad Hamlawi completes the reported five-man shortlist. Unlike the other targets, Hamlawi currently plays outside Egypt, representing Romanian club CS Universitatea Craiova.
The reported transfer plans come as Mokwena and sporting director Hani Saeed continue working on strengthening the club’s long-term structure.
The pair have agreed to establish a reserve team designed to provide a pathway between youth development and the senior squad.
The initiative, led by club chief executive Mamdouh Eid and overseen by Moatasem Salem, has already begun its preparations.
The reserve side recently recorded a 3-0 friendly victory over Mansheyet Helwan as Pyramids seek to improve their player development system, build squad depth and create a stronger pathway for emerging talents.
