Pyramids FC match AC Milan record with 14 successive wins under Rulani Mokwena
Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC have moved into elite company after extending their winning streak to 14 matches in all competitions with a 1-0 victory over Smouha in the Egyptian League Cup on Tuesday.
The Egyptian champions continued their impressive run with Ahmed Atef Cat scoring the decisive goal in the second half to secure victory and book their place in the next round of the competition.
The result means Mokwena’s side have now won all 14 of their matches since the start of the campaign, putting them among the most impressive teams in football history in terms of consecutive victories at the beginning of a season.
Their achievement has seen them surpass the 1992-93 AC Milan side, who began their campaign with 11 consecutive victories.
The Italian giants, who were among Europe’s dominant teams during that period, had set a remarkable standard before Pyramids moved past their achievement.
However, the Egyptian side still have work to do if they are to equal the European record held by Bayern Munich.
The German champions won their opening 16 matches in all competitions during the 2025-26 season under Vincent Kompany, setting a new benchmark for consecutive victories at the start of a campaign.
Pyramids will have an opportunity to extend their remarkable run when they face El Dakhleya in the Egypt Cup on Saturday.
They could then move closer to Bayern’s record after the international break, when they are scheduled to face Egyptian rivals Al Ahly.
Victory in that encounter would take Mokwena’s side to 16 successive wins, putting them level with Bayern’s impressive achievement.
