Pyramids deny making formal bid for Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed

Pyramids have insisted they have not submitted a formal offer to sign Nantes forward Mostafa Mohamed, despite reports in Egypt linking the club with a €2.5m move for the Egypt international.

A club source told FilGoal.com that while Pyramids rate the 26-year-old highly, there have been no official negotiations with the French side over a transfer.

“Mostafa Mohamed is a great striker and an addition to any team, but we have not negotiated officially to sign him as is being said,” the source said.

Recent speculation in local media had suggested Pyramids were preparing to bring the former Zamalek forward back to the Egyptian Premier League in a cut-price deal.

Focus on South African option in attack

The same Pyramids source previously indicated to FilGoal.com that the club’s priority in the current window is to strengthen the attack with a forward from South Africa rather than move for Mohamed.

According to South African outlet SABC Sport, Pyramids have been offered two strikers: Peter Shalulile and Tshegofatso Mabasa. Both names were reportedly put forward to the Cairo club following the appointment of Rolani Mokwena as head coach, as the team look to replace Fiston Mayele.

Mokwena was recently installed as Pyramids boss, succeeding Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic.

Mohamed back in Nantes training – but with reserves

While his name continues to feature in transfer rumours, Mohamed has returned to training with Nantes after previously being absent from part of the club’s pre-season conditioning programme ahead of the new campaign.

Nantes have brought him back into their preparations with individual training sessions as he works towards full fitness for the season.

Head coach Michel Der Zakarian has confirmed that Mohamed will train with the club’s reserve side until the end of the current transfer window, underlining the uncertainty over his short-term future at Stade de la Beaujoire.

Nantes signed Mohamed permanently from Galatasaray for €6.5m, after he initially joined the French club on loan from the Turkish side.

The striker has one year left on his contract with Nantes, which is due to expire in the summer of 2027.
