PSV Eindhoven bolsters defence with signing of Kiliann Sildillia from SC Freiburg

PSV Eindhoven have confirmed the signing of French right-back Kiliann Sildillia from SC Freiburg on a contract that runs until the summer of 2030, as the Dutch giants continue to reinforce their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The 23-year-old defender joins PSV after a notable spell in the Bundesliga, where he made 82 appearances for Freiburg, alongside 16 outings in the UEFA Europa League.

His move was finalised on Wednesday, with the player set to join the squad immediately at their training camp in Marienfeld, Germany.

Sildillia, who will wear the number 25 shirt, is seen as a key component in PSV’s long-term strategy. Despite his age, he brings a depth of experience from Germany’s top flight and European competitions.

He also arrives fresh from representing France at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he played a central role in the team’s run to the silver medal.

Earnest Stewart, PSV’s Director of Football Affairs, expressed strong confidence in the club’s newest recruit. “We consider Kiliann to be a superb addition to our defensive unit.

His speed, strength in one-on-one situations, aerial ability, and athleticism make him a complete defender,” Stewart said. “He’s only 23, so there’s still enormous potential for growth.

That fits perfectly with our philosophy and future ambitions.”

For Sildillia, the move to the Eredivisie marks a significant new chapter in his career. Speaking after the announcement, he shared his enthusiasm for the project and his belief in PSV’s direction.

“This is a big step forward for me,” said the defender. “PSV has a proud history and a clear ambition to compete for titles. From what I’ve seen, the facilities are top class, the staff are incredibly professional, and there’s a welcoming atmosphere around the club. It feels like the right place to take the next step in my career.”

Sildillia also highlighted a familiar face in the PSV dressing room—Guus Til, his former teammate at Freiburg. “It’s great to be reunited with Guus,” he added.

“We developed a strong connection during our time in Germany. Knowing I’ll see him here again makes it even more exciting.”

The Frenchman’s arrival underscores PSV’s intent to remain competitive both domestically and in Europe. With several clubs across the continent in the market for young, versatile defenders, PSV’s ability to secure a long-term commitment from Sildillia is being viewed as a strategic win.

The Eindhoven-based side, managed by Peter Bosz, continues to refine its squad in preparation for a season where expectations remain high.

Sildillia’s combination of youth and high-level experience is expected to offer immediate value while also aligning with the club’s focus on development and sustainability.

As PSV aims to challenge for silverware in the Netherlands and beyond, the addition of a player with Sildillia’s credentials reflects both their ambition and the calibre of talent they are now able to attract.
