Kylian Mbappé has dismissed any notion of regret following Paris Saint-Germain’s historic treble-winning season, insisting he harbours no bitterness after departing the French champions for Real Madrid last summer.
The 26-year-old striker, who has Cameroonian and Algerian heritage, watched from afar as his former club swept to an unprecedented Champions League, Ligue 1, and Coupe de France treble—securing European football’s biggest prize in the season following his exit.
Despite the timing, Mbappé says he holds no resentment.
“I didn’t leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road,” said the France captain.
Mbappé acknowledged the long journey PSG endured to achieve continental glory. “PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn’t affect me. I was happy – I think they deserved it,” he said.
“They’ve had so many years where they struggled. I’ve been there too; I’ve played in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the victory.”
PSG’s 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final set a new benchmark in the competition’s history, with the scale of their performance earning widespread praise.
Mbappé added: “They’re the best team in Europe. I don’t remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final.”
While Mbappé’s move to Madrid was framed by some as an escape to pursue European success, the Frenchman remains philosophical about missing out on PSG’s ultimate breakthrough. For him, it was simply time to move on—and fate played its part.
