PSG Clinch Second Consecutive French Title Despite Defeat to Rennes
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were crowned French champions for the second consecutive season, even though they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Rennes at the Parc des Princes on the final matchday of the Ligue 1 season.
Despite the loss, PSG’s title was already secured before the match, thanks to Monaco’s earlier draw. This victory solidified their seven-point lead, making it impossible for any team to catch them with only one match remaining. The defeat didn’t dampen the spirits of the Parisian faithful, as they celebrated another title-winning campaign.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi expressed his delight at the achievement, saying, “I’m very happy tonight. I was even before the match, because we were already champions. I’m very proud of my team because it hasn’t been an easy season. I’m happy with the results, but also with the quality of the game. This year, we’re playing better football.”
Al-Khelaïfi continued to praise the team’s overall performance but acknowledged that the motivation was challenging given that the title had already been secured. “Of course, I would have preferred us to win the match. I understand the motivation issue, because we were champions before. I continue to say the same thing. Laurent Blanc is staying here with us.”
He further emphasized the club’s ambitions, stating, “I listen to the media, but nothing will stop our dream, our project. We continue. No one will stop us.” The victory not only marked another successful season for PSG but also solidified their place as the dominant force in French football under their Qatari ownership.
