PSG fear lengthy Khvicha Kvaratskhelia absence after Barcelona win

Paris Saint-Germain are awaiting the results of a scan after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury during their 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona.

The Georgia winger, one of PSG’s influential attacking players, was forced to leave the field in the 59th minute. Maghnes Akliouche came on in his place.

Kvaratskhelia will undergo an MRI scan on Wednesday to establish the full extent of the injury. If the initial fears are confirmed, he could be out for up to nine months.

The French champions also saw Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembele leave the match with injuries.

Marquinhos was replaced by Illia Zabarnyi shortly after the hour mark amid concerns that he had suffered a hamstring strain. Dembele’s evening ended much earlier, with the forward limping off in the 20th minute.

PSG manager Luis Enrique said the three injuries had overshadowed a memorable win against Barcelona.

“I am not the doctor. I am the coach,” he told reporters.

“The three injuries is the worst part of the game today.

“We will have to wait for the tests tomorrow. They are three very important players, so it’s really bad news, of course, but that’s football.”
