Achraf Hakimi’s Ballon d’Or prospects divide opinion among former internationals

The Nanterre prosecutor’s office has requested that Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi face trial on rape charges, citing what it considers to be “sufficient evidence” against the Moroccan international.

In a final indictment issued at the end of August, prosecutor Hervé Lollic concluded that the allegations warranted judicial proceedings.

The details, reported by Le Monde and reviewed by L’Équipe, concern an incident said to have taken place at Hakimi’s home in the early hours of 25 February 2023.

According to the complaint, Amélie (*), a 24-year-old woman, told Hakimi she did not want to engage in sexual relations during the evening.

Despite this, she alleges that the footballer persisted, leading to what she described as a long discussion in which she repeated her refusal.

The prosecution asserts that Hakimi then carried out non-consensual digital penetration before the woman left his residence.

Two days later, on 26 February 2023, the woman formally reported the incident at a police station in Nogent-sur-Marne, in the Val-de-Marne area.

Her account became the basis of the subsequent investigation, which has now culminated in the prosecutor’s recommendation for a trial.

Hakimi, who serves as vice-captain of PSG, has consistently denied the allegations.

Speaking to Canal+, the Morocco international maintained his innocence and expressed his frustration at the process.

I’m calm, but being falsely accused is horrible and unfair too. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, because it’s bad. But I know the truth will come out. I have nothing to reproach myself for, he said.

The decision on whether Hakimi will stand trial now rests with the investigating judge, who must assess whether the case should proceed to a departmental criminal court or be dismissed.

The defender, widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football, remains under scrutiny as the legal process unfolds.

For Hakimi, the outcome will determine whether he faces a courtroom trial or sees the case closed.

While the prosecutor has made his position clear, the next step is judicial.

The investigating judge’s ruling will be decisive in establishing whether the PSG player is formally tried or cleared of the accusations.
