On Wednesday, 14 out of the 16 teams qualified for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) played friendly matches to gauge their form before regrouping for training camps in December or January. Mali and Ethiopia were the only teams that did not play.
Teams from the West of the continent, including Togo, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Cape Verde, showcased their skills. Togo secured a notable victory over Morocco with a score of 1-0, signaling their ambitions for the upcoming tournament.
Ivory Coast, led by Captain Didier Drogba, delivered an impressive performance against Austria, winning 3-0. Nigeria also demonstrated their strength by defeating Venezuela 3-1 in Miami. Burkina Faso faced the Democratic Republic of Congo and performed well, even without key players such as Alain Traoré, Pitroipa, Kaboré, and Dagano.
Mali, which did not play, remains a bit of a mystery, and observers are keen to learn more about the Eagles’ preparations for the tournament.
