Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Nelson Semedo has called for his team to maintain their momentum and improve their concentration in the wake of a 2-1 home defeat to Fulham on Tuesday as they continue their battle to climb the Premier League table.
The match, which saw Fulham secure victory with early goals in both halves, highlighted Wolves’ ongoing struggles with consistency.
Despite Joao Gomes’ equalizer bringing Vitor Pereira’s side level at the break, Wolves were unable to capitalize on their first-half resurgence.
Semedo, a Portuguese international of Cape Verdean descent, took responsibility for his role in the team’s poor start, acknowledging a decision that led to Fulham’s opening goal.
“It’s disappointing. We wanted to get the points that were very important to us. We didn’t start well the first half. I wasn’t good enough with the decision I made, and that cost us a goal. We have to take the responsibility, and here I am for that.
“After, we scored a goal. I think we did really well in the first half, created a lot of chances, but then second half was the same thing. We didn’t start well the second half, and the Premier League punishes when it’s like this.
“I think it’s more about us today. We weren’t good enough today, and we cannot be like this if we want to go higher in the table, we have to be better. We take some lessons and work hard and come back again.”
The loss to Fulham comes at a critical juncture for Wolves, who currently sit 17th in the Premier League standings with 22 points from 27 matches.
With a goal difference of -19, the team’s defensive frailties have been a significant concern throughout the season.
