Porto sign former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling

Porto have announced the signing of English defender Chris Smalling from Saudi Pro League club Al Feiha.

The former England international has signed a contract until the end of the current season, with the option to extend the agreement for a further campaign.

Smalling began his career with English club Maidstone before moving on to a distinguished spell at Manchester United. He also played for Roma, where he made a significant contribution during his time in Italy, before joining Al Feiha for his latest experience in the Saudi Pro League.

Across his career with his various clubs, Smalling has made 568 appearances, scoring 33 goals and providing eight assists.

During his time at Manchester United, he won the Premier League twice, the EFL Cup once, the Community Shield three times, the FA Cup once and the UEFA Europa League once.

He also lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League with Roma.

Smalling joins Porto as the Portuguese club sit top of the Primeira Liga with 21 points from seven matches. They have won all seven of their games so far this season.

Porto are preparing to face Maritimo Madeira on Saturday, 10 October, in the eighth round of the Portuguese league.
