Porto eye move for Wolfsburg right-back Sael Kumbedi in 12m switch

France-DR Congo defender Sael Kumbedi, 21, is being linked with a move from German side Wolfsburg to Portuguese giants Porto, with the right-backs future under scrutiny despite his rising valuation.

The Wolfsburg No 26, who can operate across the right side of defence, is rated at 12.00m on Transfermarkt, a figure expected to frame any negotiations. The rumoured transfer, logged on 3 July with a probability marked only as ?, remains at an early stage and there is no indication yet of an agreed fee or personal terms.

Kumbedis contract situation at Wolfsburg is unclear, with no expiry date listed, meaning it is not yet known whether Porto are exploring a standard transfer or positioning themselves should he edge towards free-agent status. Wolfsburg, currently in Germanys 2. Bundesliga, initially took the full-back on loan from Lyon in August 2025 before making the move permanent on 1 January 2026.

The Stains-born defender has seen his market value climb sharply since his emergence at Lyon, rising from 200,000 at Le Havres academy in June 2022 to 12m with Wolfsburg by May 2026. That trajectory, after spells with Le Havres youth and senior sides and a 2022 switch to Olympique Lyon, has drawn growing attention from clubs outside France and Germany.

Standing at 1.75m and preferring his right foot, Kumbedi has been used primarily as a defender at Wolfsburg but has also shown the athletic profile favoured by attack-minded coaches in Liga Portugal. Porto, who have a long record of developing and reselling young full-backs, are reported to be monitoring his situation closely.

With the likelihood of a move still uncertain, a transfer to Porto would represent a significant step into regular European competition for Kumbedi and could become a defining test of his potential at the highest level if it materialises.
