Pirates seek winning return against Chippa United in Betway Premiership

Orlando Pirates will be looking to return to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they face Chippa United at Kings Park Stadium on Sunday, 16 August 2026.

The Buccaneers surrendered points for the first time this season on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 with AmaZulu FC. That result ended their winning run in the league, although Pirates were spared the demands of travelling for the fixture because the meeting with Usuthu was also played at Kings Park Stadium.

Pirates now have the opportunity to respond immediately, but they face a Chippa United side that has shown resilience in its two most recent matches. Brandon Truter’s team has drawn consecutive games against Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC.

Chippa currently occupy ninth position in the Betway Premiership standings. A victory against Pirates would move them above their opponents and lift them into fifth place, adding importance to a fixture in which both sides have a clear incentive to claim all three points.

The historical record between the teams, however, favours Orlando Pirates. The Buccaneers have won their past five league meetings with the Chilli Boys, and will hope that that sequence can provide further encouragement as they attempt to regain momentum.

Chippa United’s starting XI has not yet been confirmed.

Orlando Pirates will begin with 24. Chaine in goal, while 5. Sibisi, 6. Seema and 36. Sebelebele form the defensive line. The midfield includes 7. Hotto, 46. Dansin, 33. Mokobodi and 28. Maswanganyi.

Further forward, 12. Appollis, 23. Lungu and 9. Mbuthuma have been selected in the Pirates attack.

The Orlando Pirates substitutes are 32. Dladla, 49. Kgositsile, 48. Masilela, 45. Msendami, 37. Zulu, 29. Mthiyane, 25. Radiopane, 19. Rapoo and 4. Mariko.

For Chippa United, the line-up remains to be announced, meaning the Buccaneers are currently the only team with a confirmed starting XI in the match details.

The fixture gives Pirates a chance to build on the positive aspects of their draw with AmaZulu while correcting the failure to turn that performance into a victory. Chippa, meanwhile, will know that another draw would not be enough to secure the major movement in the table that a win would provide.

With the standings capable of changing significantly depending on the result, and with Pirates seeking to extend their dominance in this league fixture, the meeting at Kings Park Stadium carries considerable significance for both sides.
