Tomás Faria, re-elected as President of Angola’s Petro de Luanda, has unveiled his ambitious vision for the club’s future, aiming to secure victory in the CAF Champions League by 2028.
Following his successful re-election for a third term at the helm of Petro de Luanda’s board of directors, Faria remains steadfast in his commitment to elevating the club to new heights.
Embracing lofty aspirations, Faria has set his sights on conquering the continent’s premier club competition within the next quadrennial cycle.
Addressing reporters after his re-appointment, Faria articulated his strategic roadmap, emphasizing Petro de Luanda’s progression through the stages of the CAF Champions League.
“It’s no longer enough for us to be in the group stage. It is now an obligation,” he asserted. “Today we just want to celebrate the semi-finals, which means reaching the group stage is a must.
We must now go beyond the quarter-finals.”
With an unwavering determination to exceed previous achievements, Faria outlined the club’s immediate objectives, targeting advancement to the semi-finals and ultimately vying for the prestigious title of African champions.
“By 2028, we will try to see if we can bring back the African champion title,” he declared, underscoring Petro de Luanda’s unwavering pursuit of excellence on the continental stage.
Despite Petro de Luanda’s illustrious history, which includes a semi-final appearance in the 2021-2022 season, the club has yet to secure victory in any African competition.
Faria’s re-election signifies a renewed commitment to transforming Petro de Luanda into a formidable force capable of competing at the highest echelons of African football, as they strive to etch their name in the annals of CAF Champions League history.
