José Peseiro, the head coach of the Nigerian national team, discusses the possibility of returning to the Egyptian Premier League while reaffirming Nigeria’s ambitions for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
José Peseiro, the esteemed coach at the helm of the Nigerian national football team, has shed light on the potential of his return to coaching in the Egyptian Premier League.
In a detailed conversation with his team’s media center, he shared insights into his experiences with the Nigerian squad and underscored the team’s aspirations for the imminent Africa Cup of Nations.
The Africa Cup of Nations 2023 is set to kick off in Côte d’Ivoire on January 13 and will extend until February 11, 2024, featuring the participation of 24 national teams.
Nigeria finds itself placed in Group A alongside the host country, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
Reflecting on his tenure with the Nigerian team, Peseiro remarked, “It has been a good experience, especially as I was able to familiarize myself with African football.
Since signing the contract with Nigeria, our goal has been to clinch victory in the Africa Cup of Nations, despite the fierce competition, and that is what we aim to achieve.”
Acknowledging the formidable competition ahead, he noted, “The competition will be tough, given the presence of several strong and distinguished teams.”
When questioned about the Egyptian national team, Peseiro expressed admiration, stating, “Egypt is one of the best teams on the continent and is likely to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.”
Responding to inquiries regarding the possibility of coaching in the Egyptian Premier League, especially with ties to the Zamalek club, he stated, “I follow the Egyptian Premier League, of course, but at the moment, I am the coach of the Nigerian national team, and my focus is on the Africa Cup of Nations.”
