Pep Guardiola will not manage Trabzonspor or any team this season, says agent

Pep Guardiola will not take charge of Trabzonspor or any other club or national side during the current season, according to his agent.

The statement dismisses recent reports in Turkish media that Guardiola had entered serious negotiations to become manager of Trabzonspor, the Turkish club where Mohamed Salah now plays.

Those reports suggested the former Manchester City manager was being considered for the vacant position on an annual salary of 13 million euros.

However, Spanish newspaper AS quoted Guardiola’s representative as saying: “Pep will not coach any club or national team this season.”

Trabzonspor have been without a permanent manager since Fatih Tekke was dismissed earlier this month following a poor start to the campaign.

Mohamed Salah joined the Turkish club during the most recent summer transfer window after his contract with Liverpool expired.

The Egyptian forward’s arrival had been followed by significant attention around Trabzonspor, but the club have struggled to establish early momentum in the season.

They currently sit fourth in the Turkish league table with seven points. Their domestic position has been offset by a heavy European setback, with Trabzonspor eliminated from the qualifying rounds for the Europa League after a 5-0 aggregate defeat by Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Guardiola’s availability had prompted speculation over a possible move to Turkey, particularly with Trabzonspor searching for a new manager. The club’s reported offer would have made the role one of the most lucrative managerial appointments in the competition.

The agent’s clarification, however, rules out Guardiola taking charge of Trabzonspor this season and also excludes a move to any national team during the same period.
