Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has voiced his reservations about new Egyptian signing Omar Marmoush, following his side’s recent encounter with Tottenham.
Speaking in the mixed zone on Wednesday, Guardiola indicated that Marmoush had yet to fully adapt to the tactical demands of the team.
“Omar Marmoush does not yet have the necessary characteristics to put pressure on the opponent, as the team’s players do in specific areas of the pitch.
We have a very young team, our attacking trio represents the future of Manchester City, and Nico González will also be part of the future after Rodri’s return, as well as of course Josanov and Gvardiol.”
Marmoush joined Manchester City in the January transfer window from German club Eintracht Frankfurt.
Since his arrival, the 25-year-old forward has made eight appearances, netting three goals, including an impressive hat-trick against Newcastle.
Despite flashes of brilliance, the Egyptian international appears to be facing a challenge in meeting the tactical expectations set by Guardiola, who places significant emphasis on pressing and positional play.
The City manager’s comments suggest that Marmoush must adapt quickly to secure a more prominent role in the squad.
With the club balancing domestic and European campaigns, competition for places remains fierce.
Marmoush’s talent and goal-scoring ability are not in question, but his long-term future at Manchester City may hinge on his capacity to integrate into Guardiola’s demanding tactical philosophy.
Fans will be watching closely to see if the Egyptian forward can rise to the challenge in the coming weeks.
