Joao Pedro believes there is enough tactical flexibility in Chelsea’s frontline to accommodate himself, Liam Delap, and Nicolas Jackson.
The Brazilian forward, who joined the Blues from Brighton this summer, is confident that their different playing styles can complement one another under new head coach Enzo Maresca.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup semifinal clash with Fluminense, Pedro welcomed the competition for places in the attacking line and praised Maresca’s approach to team selection.
“Delap has a style, Jackson another and I have my way. But I think that is good for Chelsea,” Pedro said.
“I think whoever brings more good things to the team is going to play. Everyone will have to work hard and then Enzo will decide. He is a very good coach, very intelligent and he tries to make it easy for us.”
Pedro also shed light on how he prepared for his Chelsea move while still on holiday, making sure he was physically ready when the call came.
“I was on holiday with friends and family, but I made sure I was ready,” he recalled. “Imagine if I didn’t train and Chelsea called me to come — then it would be more difficult for me.”
The 22-year-old added that his prior knowledge of Chelsea’s interest was a motivating factor.
“I knew Chelsea had an interest in me so that is why I was training harder… I made my debut and I think I showed I am ready and now I hope to play tomorrow. It was a great experience so let’s see tomorrow.”
